Executive Director Job Description
The Executive Director is the key management leader of SATX Inner City Development, Inc (SATX Inner City). The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
- Board Governance: Works with the board, made up of community residents and longtime volunteers, in order to fulfill the organization’s mission.
- Responsible for leading SATX Inner City in a compassionate and loving manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
- Responsible for communicating effectively with the working Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the working Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
- Responsible for Legal and Contractual Agreements to the working Board.
- Financial Performance and Viability: Develop resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.
- Responsible for fundraising and developing other revenues necessary to support SATX Inner City mission’s commitment to dignity.
- Responsible for the fiscal integrity of SATX Inner City, including submission to the working Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements that accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
- Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, maintaining and fostering donors and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
- Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning, community outreach and building community relationships.
- Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that SATX Inner City can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.
- Responsible for the enhancement of SATX Inner City’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations.
- Organization Operations: Oversees human resources and administrative tasks to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriately implemented.
- Responsible for hiring, if a position becomes approved by the board; retention of competent, qualified staff; evaluation of staff.
- Responsible for volunteer orientation, ongoing training and evaluation.
- Responsible for Day-to-Day instruments such as flyers and any other forms.
- Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization, as per board approved guidelines.
Actual Job Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Board of Directors in their development of organizational policy.
- Work closely with the Board of Directors in the development of a business plan.
- Foster an environment of cooperation for input from volunteers and Community.
- Evaluation of programs with volunteer and participants’ input.
- Planning and operation of annual budget.
- Continue oversight and attend Board meetings.
- Serve as San Antonio Inner City Development’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media and the general public.
- Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance SATX Inner City Development’s mission.
- Engage in fundraising and develop other revenues.
- Oversee marketing and other communication efforts.
- Attend scheduled board and committee meetings.
- Serve at ex-officio member on sub-committees.
- Establish employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of SATX Inner City Development.
- Review and approve contracts for services.
- Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree
- Five or more years senior nonprofit management experience.
- Two or more years in a non-profit environment or familiarity with non-profit culture.
- Experience and skill in working with Board of Directors.
- Ability to generate new revenue streams and improve financial results.
- Financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.
Required Qualifications
- 25 hours minimum per week required. Schedule is flexible as long as person is present for critical services like Food Pantry. Summer schedule may be adjusted to more hours to meet summer program needs.
- Transparent and high integrity leadership.
- Ability to envision and convey the organization’s strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers, partner agencies and donors.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff.
- Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong public speaking ability.
- Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.
- Become a resident of Inner City’s Service area within 6 months of hire, if not already a resident.
