Job Title: AWS Server Administrator Volunteer (Remote)

Location: Remote

Start / Time: Immediate needs of 4-6 hours and then as needed approximately 15-20 hours monthly. We may be open to more hours.

Description:

We are seeking a knowledgeable AWS Server Administrator volunteer to help us manage and migrate our current EC2 servers to AWS Free Tier resources. This remote volunteer role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to a nonprofit organization, focused climate acton, utilizing your AWS expertise to optimize cloud infrastructure, reduce costs, and improve server performance.

Responsibilities:

  1. Review and manage existing AWS EC2 servers and other cloud services remotely.
  2. Lead the migration of server infrastructure to AWS Free Tier services where possible.
  3. Implement cost-saving strategies and optimize cloud resources for performance.
  4. Configure and maintain server security and implement best practices for AWS management.
  5. Monitor server health and performance, troubleshoot issues, and provide remote support for incidents.
  6. Collaborate with the team to ensure the migration aligns with organizational needs and goals.
  7. Document the server setup, migration processes, and provide ongoing support and guidance.

Requirements:

  1. Professional experience with AWS services, especially EC2, S3, and RDS.
  2. Knowledge of AWS Free Tier usage and limitations, with a focus on cost optimization.
  3. Experience in server migration and cloud infrastructure management.
  4. Solid understanding of security, networking, and best practices in cloud environments.
  5. Ability to work independently in a remote team and communicate effectively.
  6. Availability for remote meetings and communication to ensure smooth project coordination.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. AWS Certification (Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, or equivalent).
  2. Experience with automation tools and scripting (e.g., Python, Bash).
  3. Familiarity with AWS monitoring tools such as CloudWatch.
  4. Previous experience with nonprofit organizations or volunteer projects.

Other

  • Troubleshoot and debug issues, providing timely resolution.
  • Collaborate with frontend developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
  • Optimize application performance, scalability, and security.
