Volunteer Position

Donation Pickup Assistant

No office work here, you will be out and about in beautiful Santa Barbara working with contractors and homeowners collecting usable building materials that we can then resell to the public. 100% of the proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County!

The ReStore supports Habitat for Humanity's overall environmental initiative by diverting usable materials away from the waste stream, while promoting the responsible stewardship of natural resources. We sell new and salvaged building materials to the public at discounted prices, and all proceeds contribute to the construction of new Habitat homes.

OBJECTIVES: The primary responsibility of the donation pickup assistant volunteer is to work with staff to go out with the Habitat truck and pick up donations for the ReStore from around Southern Santa Barbara County. This volunteer will also help with unloading and processing donations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the driver when picking up material at donor sites
  • Unload trucks
  • Inspect, clean, test, package, label and price incoming donations

REPORTS TO: ReStore Assistant Manager, Joel Delgado

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Friendly and helpful attitude
  • Ability to lift more than 50lbs
  • Ability to climb stairs
  • Ability to work on your feet in a warehouse environment

VOLUNTEER SCHEDULE

  • 9:00am - 1:00pm each week on one of the following days; Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday.

TRAINING PROVIDED

  • On-site training is provided and consists of an orientation with the Volunteer Coordinator, review of the Volunteer Manual, safety training and hands-on training by ReStore Assistant Manager. On-going supervision and training will be provided as needed.
