Book lovers around the world enjoy searching for Little Free Libraries using our app. We need your help to increase the accuracy of our map of book-sharing boxes!
You can get started in 2 steps: register online and then complete a self-paced online training. We will show you how easy it is to use our free app to find Little Free Libraries and report any that are missing.
It’s very flexible: search for libraries whenever it fits in your schedule. For your convenience, you will identify the areas of Washington DC, Alexandria, Arlington, and the greater metro area that are easiest for you to visit.
Purpose/Impact of the Role: By increasing the accuracy of Little Free Library locations on our free world map, you are helping us to build community, inspire readers, and expand book access.
Responsibilities:
- Explore your neighborhood in the Washington DC area using the free Little Free Library mobile app.
- If a mapped library is missing, use the app to report it and share helpful notes. (We will reach out to the caretakers of those Little Free Libraries to follow up.)
- If you find a book-sharing box without a charter sign, leave an invitation to join the Little Free Library network.
- Collect information about the book-sharing boxes you find so that we can do follow up outreach.
Training & Resources Available: We will help you get to know our organization and share best practices for visiting Little Free Libraries through our self-paced online training. We’ll also mail you printed invitations & envelopes that you can share with unregistered book-sharing boxes.
Qualifications:
- Curious and friendly
- Familiar with the Little Free Library mobile app or willing to learn
- Able to collect information while on-the-go and share it with us via online forms
- Have access to transportation to get to Little Free Libraries in your community
Benefits/Volunteer Perks: You’ll get a free Little Free Library t-shirt after you record your first impact here on the Team LFL hub! If you need hours verified for a service-learning or workplace volunteer program, Little Free Library can provide verification.
Supervision & Support: Little Free Library’s Community Engagement Manager can answer questions. We also offer virtual Team LFL Q&A sessions for volunteer support.
