Mission Statement

To investigate nature and science, preserve and interpret our collections, conduct scientific research, and inspire people of all ages to a lifetime of exploration and discovery.

Description

Formerly the Delaware Museum of Natural History, the museum was founded in 1957 and open to the public since 1972. The museum completed a major metamorphosis to its galleries and public spaces and reopened in May 2022.

Encouraging our visitors to explore and discover is at the core of what we do, whether it’s through exhibits, events, programs, or connecting with partnering organizations and scientists.

In our galleries, discover how nature connects us all through exploring dynamic and diverse ecosystems.

Educational programs include summer camp, school tours, community outreach visits, scout activities, and other initiatives.

Above our galleries are millions of scientific specimens serving as a record of biodiversity on Earth and as a resource for scientists all over the world. Our scientists curate and maintain the collections and conduct research.
