About

Logistics (LOGS) volunteers support Ventura County Fire Department staff by responding to fire incidents throughout Ventura County on an on-call basis. This is a base support, non fire-fighter position. Tasks include taking a large box-truck to the base camp with supplies, such as drinking water, food, batteries and canopies. The truck pulls a porta-potty. Generally volunteers respond and assist on the first day of the incident. Supplies for prolonged incidents come from other sources. No special driver's license is required. Volunteers are usully on-call for a 7-day period, a full weekend shift or a full weekday shift. The "Primary" on-call position is the driver. "Secondary" LOGS volunteers are non-driver positions. These volunteers are also on call for specified days and assist the Primary on-call volunteer. The schedule varies from month to month to accommodate the volunteers' availability. During each shift the Primary and/or Secondary volunteer checks the contents of the truck to ensure it is stocked and prepared to respond to a call. The time commitment varies, depending on emergency situations that arise. A week on-call could include checking and stocking the truck only if no emergencies arise.
