This opportunity is only for current NJ or NYC high school students.
We are looking for committed high school students to serve as Team Assistants for our sports and arts teams. For more information about who we are, please visit our website at www.soulphamm.org.
Team Assistants help with the administrative tasks relating to their assigned team. This can mean researching competition opportunities, taking attendance, assisting the coaches with keeping time, keeping basketball stats, facilitating drills, making up/teaching dance choreography, recording practices, and more. It's a great opportunity to learn about managing a youth development organization.
You would be needed every Saturday that your team is practicing (or performing/competing). Currently, we rent space at the Newark YMCA (600 Broad Street), but there is a strong opportunity that we will move to the Elizabeth YMCA (135 Madison Avenue) from November to June. Our season runs on Saturdays from 1pm to 4pm from September to June.
You would also serve on our Student Council which meets virtually (Zoom) on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month, representing the needs of your team.
Following are the teams that you can assist: Boys' Basketball, Girls' Cheerleading, Girls' Hip-Hop Majorette Dance, Coed Drumline. We need two assistants per team.
We will send more information when you express interest through this website. Please be sure to specify which team you are interested in assisting.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of young people by providing unique artistic and athletic experiences and performances, and to assist them in achieving the highest standards of professionalism through the development of discipline, skill, confidence, cooperation, leadership, responsibility and character.
Description
Our vision is to promote virtue, equity, unity, justice, faith, charity and a sense of common purpose and brotherhood among all people with an emphasis on the development and advancement of young people through education, athletics, service and the arts.
SoulPhamm was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the state of New Jersey on June 25, 2021 and is the "birth-child" of Coach Luis ("Lou") and Dr. Leisa Herrera ("Mz. Doc"). The organization exists to provide training to young people in a variety of sports and performing arts and unique opportunities to display those talents through competition and performance. By integrating mentoring, life skills, opportunities for community service and academic enrichment to the athletic/artistic program, we help make our scholar-athletes as well-rounded as possible, capable of meeting and overcoming any challenges they are faced with. Although Coach Lou passed away suddenly in January 2021, the official launch of SoulPhamm was held on June 26, 2021, which coincided with his birthday weekend. SoulPhamm will recognize its own founding, as well as the achievements of our young people every year on the fourth Saturday of June, as a tribute to the life and legacy of Coach Lou.
