Position Purpose

The purpose of this role is to assist ALSAC staff leading seminar transportation initiatives during events.

Key Responsibilities

The Transportation Captain is responsible for:

• Working closely with Transportation (event lead or ALSAC staff)
• Overseeing and supporting transportation volunteers ensuring they adhere to schedules and safety protocols
• Assessing volunteer needs, including roles, shifts, number of volunteers, requirements etc. This includes providing feedback and maintaining open lines of communication
• Communicating with volunteers, including event logistics, pre-event requirements, post-event wrap-up and recognition
• Ensuring volunteers have necessary supplies, such as volunteer apparel or role-specific items
• Providing day of training for volunteers
• Supervising and supporting volunteers on-site
• Encouraging volunteers to stay connected and active in future opportunities
• Advising on and implementing process improvements within the transportation volunteer roles to enhance volunteer and guest experience

• Strong interpersonal communication skills and able to maintain professionalism
• Able to communicate courteously with volunteers and guests
• Willing to work in a team environment
• Must be reliable
• Ability to be flexible
• Must be 21 years of age and older

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with the St. Jude mission (training provided)

• Volunteer must complete a criminal background check and interview

• St. Jude Volunteer Orientation (new volunteers)
• On campus familiarization
• Tour overview and process

• 10 hours per month

• 3 months (September - November)

• St. Jude t-shirt
• Khaki pants or blue jeans with no holes
