Volunteer Videographer Needed for Youth Advocacy Events!

ORGANIZATION: KIDSAVE INTERNATIONAL INC

Are you passionate about photography and looking to positively impact your community? We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic volunteer videographer to capture the spirit of our upcoming Weekend Miracles events in Virginia!

What is Weekend Miracles?

Kidsave's Weekend Miracles provides a new way to find adoptive parents for older children and teens in foster care in Virginia. Through our Meet The Kids Events, kids and families get to know each other at their own pace, in safe, fun, and interactive environments. Most importantly, the kids have a voice and a choice in who they want to get to know.

Once a child connects with a family, the adults can become the kid’s "host." Hosts make a one-year commitment to regularly spend time with a child (at least twice a month) and become mentors to them, introducing them to friends, family, colleagues, and their local community in hopes of finding a forever family.

Hosts celebrate the kids’ milestones and successes and help guide them through hard times. Hosts are people just like you. Our hosts are singles, married couples, and same-sex couples, with or without children, ready to make a difference in an older kid’s life. For many of our host families, the Weekend Miracles program is the ideal pathway to adoption, enabling them to build relationships gradually and organically.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to create change so that children to be adopted grow up in families and are connected to caring adults. Kidsave International is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization

Description

In 1993 Terry Baugh traveled to Russia to adopt a child. She was not prepared for what she saw. The orphanage was a huge, cold institution with an insufficient number of caregivers for all of the children. Children with shaved heads were sitting in playpens with no toys and no stimulation. Terry shared her experience with Randi Thompson, her business partner, also an adoptive parent. They did their homework and learned that the neglect caused by orphanage living creates brain damage, psychological problems and slows development.

Randi and Terry believed these children deserved a voice - and families. They needed a second chance. A miracle. So, they teamed up to make that miracle happen and founded Kidsave.

In the summer of 1999, Kidsave gave 177 older orphanage children summer vacations in the US with American families - 97% were adopted. It was a miracle for these children and for Terry and Randi it provided the basis for creating Kidsave’s Family Visit Model, which has now been successfully tested in Russia, Colombia, and the USA as a way to help older kids in care find parents and committed mentors.

Now, working in partnership with more than a dozen governments and local non-profits, and thousands of children later, Kidsave’s work continues with international programs in Colombia, Ukraine, and Sierra Leone, and in Los Angeles and Houston foster care helping kids find adoptive parents and lasting connections to caring adults.
