ORGANIZATION: Agate Housing and Services

  • 2 people are interested

Overview:
Agate Housing and Services helps people experiencing homelessness, and its mission is to end homelessness and relieve hunger . One of the ways we support this cause is by asking for physical donations that would go to program participants. They don’t always have what they need , whether they are in shelter, living outside, or moving into their own place , but donations can help bridge that gap . Hygiene, camping, and household supplies are a few examples of the donations we are looking for but don’t always find.

The In-k ind Donation Outreach Coordinator ’s role is to connect Agate to groups and individuals who can donate precisely what our community needs , and then record these donations electronically. They would work directly with the In-Kind Donation Manager and Donation Center Volunteer Team to understand and respond to current needs. The coordinator monitors and responds to donor inquiries and drop off requests , receives supplies, and fills out a receipt . A volunteer role like this calls for strong familiarity with computers, email, and spreadshe et s.

Responsibilities:

Outreach

  • Create solicitation material and social media content for donations in collaboration with social media manager

  • Keep track of in-kind donation needs

  • Update volunteer websites to reflect current needs

  • Reach out to specific companies, groups, or individuals

  • Follow up with current and potential in-kind donors

Coordination

  • Set drop-off appointments with donors

  • Receive donations after hours

  • Write up in-kind donation receipts

  • Electronically record receipts

  • Check in-kind donation inboxes regularly

Training and Supervision:

The coordinator’s on-site supervisor and trainer will be Abby Abele , Community Organizer & In-Kind Donation Manager . She will fully train the In-kind Donation Outreach Coordinator on how the Donation Center operates , how in-kind donation processing works, and how to solicit donations. Abby overs e es the in-kind donations and coordinates with donors and Donation Center volunteers , so it is imperative for the C oordinator to communic ate scheduling updates, questions, or concerns. They can come to Abby for any day-to-day questions, guidance , or support. Noah Chan, the Volunteer Manager, will give a broad overview of homelessness, what Agate does, and then introduce them to their on-site supervisor.

Impact
:

The In-Kind Donation Outreach Coordinator plays a vital role in helping meet the needs of Agate programs that are working to end homelessness. The people we serve are often limited in their necessities and other resources , and their case managers do their best with what we have in storage . The coordinator bridges these gaps by connecting with people who donate important supplies , which helps Agate’s case managers and other staff when working with their cli e nts . In-kind donations provide budget relief for Agate, and with the coordinator’s help, we can streamline this and better serve program participants by giving the m precisely what they need.

Benefit to Volunteer:

This volunteer role is a great opportunity for someone looking to do both electronic and physical work. There are components of individual, remote work, and more social, in-person work. This is also a way for someone to get exposure to nonprofit structures, fundraising techniques, and solicitation. The coordinator can learn how a nonprofit like Agate connects with groups and donors to receive donated supplie s.
