Please visit the new page to apply.
Volunteers would be assisting the kids with community service projects, helping them build friendships, and generally helping our program run smoothly. You would need to be available on Wednesdays for some portion of our program, which runs 12:30 - 5:30. We typically have adult volunteers toward the beginning of the program, and middle and high schoolers join us after school. The program is teacher-run and volunteers would be in a support role. We offer community service hours, the opportunity to earn the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, and it's fun for anyone who likes kids!

Mission Statement
Our mission is to expose young children to local charities, develop empathy for those in need, and engage children in the benefits of helping others, all while having fun and working as a team! Each day we give our Service Star campers hands-on opportunities to help their community through service learning projects. This year our campers will be volunteering with organizations including Community Harvest, Newton Senior Center, MSPCA, Ronald McDonald House, Rise Against Hunger, and more. We believe service learning, and a quality summer camp, should be available to all youth. To make camp accessible to families of all incomes, we charge a reduced camper fee - less than half the price of many other camps in the area.
Description
Service Stars was started in 2018 by local public school teachers who wanted to bring quality service-learning opportunities to young children. We started by offering a 2-week summer camp where campers were doing a hands-on service project each day and learning about their impact on a community issue. We have expanded to offer vacation day programming, weekend events, and more summer camp sessions. Our growth has been in response to a lack of accessible community service experiences for young children who fall below the age range required by most organizations to volunteer. As such, parents are responsible for creating these opportunities for their kids which can be challenging, time-consuming, and difficult to do in an engaging way. Our program combines quality teaching with age-appropriate service activities that really help children understand the impact they can have on their community. We believe that these experiences can be life-changing and can develop a life-long commitment to service for our next generation.
