About MY LIFE IN A BAG FOUNDATION

Location:

2617 JEFFKENN DR, SAINT LOUIS, MO 63136, US

Mission Statement

MISSION: My Life in a Bag Foundation empowers youth residing in foster care and residential group homes by providing luggage and essentials, pooled from community resources, to enhance self-worth and resilience for a dignified future.

Description

The My Life in A Bag Foundation has been a dream for many of the organizers due to the need seen as they worked with underprivileged, dual diagnosis, homeless, and traumatized youth of all ages. As they succeed and fail, they move to different residential areas, foster homes, shelters, emergency placements, and other programs. As they make these transitions, they leave behind support systems, memories, and sometime things and people who are precious to them. The My Life In A Bag Foundation will help these youth make these moves with pride and a better more positive sense of self. The idea came from the founding member of the organization who has a long history of working with these very same youth. Memories of helping youth pack their things in black plastic bags or old donated duffle bags and antique luggage. As these children journey to the next place, they are obviously afraid and worried about how they will be seen by others once they arrive. This foundation was created to give them a sense of pride and fulfill some basic needs. What if these very same youth had a set of nice luggage to make their move with instead of black plastic bags.100% of the youth who connect with our foundation will benefit in some way. The years of experience of our main participants has taught them how important it is for the youth in need tend to be better off when someone consistently meets their basic needs or just simply listens to them.
