The Los Angeles Public Library offers online reading, writing, and English conversation classes using zoom. Our classes bring in learners from diverse communities around the world! Reading is a part of our everyday life - from cooking, to driving, to applying for a job. Help someone enrich their life by supporting a class of adult learners on their journey towards literacy!
Your role as a Teacher's Assistant would help with the technological portion of the class. We need you to be proficient in basic email and computer skills. Familiarity with Zoom is recommended, but we also offer training.
We may need you to do the following:
- Manage Zoom controls (opening and closing a class, admitting learners from the waiting room, locking class, sharing the screen, creating break-out rooms, monitoring learners in chat, adding a poll, etc.)
- Collect learner information (email addresses, attendance, suggestions)
- Email classwork and homework assignments
- Promote the use of library resources by referring students to specialists at the library, when appropriate.

Mission Statement
The Los Angeles Public Library provides free and easy access to information, ideas, books and technology that enrich, educate and empower every individual in our city's diverse communities.
Description
The Los Angeles Public Library is largest public research institution west of the Mississippi.
With more than 70 branch libraries and Central Library subject departments serving millions of Angelenos on a yearly basis, our programs are supported by thousands of volunteers in a variety of capacities. Whether providing one on one literacy tutoring, cutting out craft supplies for story time activities, helping serve summer lunch at the library, or serving as a Friend of the Library, all volunteers play a role in the work of LAPL.
If you would like to volunteer, but don't see a listing that matches your interests, please contact your local branch or the Volunteer Engagement Office. Opportunities and needs vary by location and fluctuate throughout the year.
Please note that the minimum age for volunteers is 14 (with the exception of 11-13-year-olds joining Teen Councils), minimum time commitments are required for most opportunities, adult volunteers working with children will be fingerprinted, and LAPL does not accept court-mandated community service.
