ECN Purpose is seeking licensed optometrists to volunteer their time and talent to perform vision screenings and eye exams within our Orange County community. This volunteer position offers you an opportunity to bring vision care to underserved individuals within our community and to mentor those interested in pursuing a career in the vision care industry.

The ECN Purpose Mobile Eye Health Unit is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to deliver high-quality eye care to those in need. Optometrists are supported by optometric technicians, who receive training to volunteer with ECN Purpose.

Mobile eye care events are generally 3-4 hours in duration and are staffed by optometrists, optometric student technicians, and ECN Purpose personnel. Events vary in terms of the day of the week and time, and are held throughout Orange County. You have the flexibility to volunteer with ECN Purpose whenever your schedule allows - quarterly, semiannually, or annually.

Licensure is required. Onboarding includes a one-on-one tour of the ECN Purpose state-of-the-art Mobile Eye Health Unit, optical equipment, and walk through of event procedures.

Vision care is often overlooked, particularly in underserved communities. ECN Purpose, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Orange County, CA, is dedicated to addressing this gap in vision care by raising awareness about eye health and ensuring access to vision care for those in need through advocacy, outreach, education, and connection.

Utilizing ECN Purpose’s state-of-the-art Mobile Eye Health Unit, volunteer optometrists and technicians provide vision screenings and eye exams to underserved populations. ECN Purpose collaborates with nonprofit partners to bring their services to locations throughout Orange County, overcoming common obstacles like trust, transportation, and geographic limitations. "We meet people where they are and safely connect them to vision care," says Carolyn Khuu, Mobile Eye Health manager at ECN Purpose.

"At ECN Purpose, we emphasize the importance of preventative care and eye health education, particularly in a time when digital devices are so prominent. We provide a variety of educational resources, including videos, social media posts, and free downloadable materials on our website," notes Cassandra Hume, Executive Director.
