Fellowship and Training Opportunity for Undergraduate Students to be Virtual College Advisers

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: MATRICULATE INC

Image_202409042011

Matriculate recruits, selects, and trains undergraduate college students to serve as virtual college advisors to high school students nationwide. Each year, we partner with over 1000 undergraduates to provide high school students with high-quality college advising. Our advisors equip high school students with the tools, resources, and role models they need to enroll in and thrive at colleges that match their aspirations.

Since our model is virtual, we can focus on reaching first-generation college students, underrepresented students of color, and students in rural communities. Additionally, we ensure that our undergraduate college advisors' socioeconomic backgrounds and demographics reflect those of the high school students they mentor. Over the course of a decade, Matriculate has built technology systems that connect Advising Fellows virtually to high school students and families that too often lack access to personalized college advising.

"As a first-generation student and immigrant, Matriculate gave me the confidence I needed to envision myself at a top university. My Advising Fellow, Pamela, was the best! During application season, we would text for long periods of time and she would help with my essays and it overall made the process a lot more smooth. I probably wouldn’t have done as well without her and this program."

Matriculate is looking for undergraduates who are:

* Committed to and passionate about Matriculate’s mission and values
* Able to commit 5-6 hours a week during the school year
* Comfortable conducting self-directed, independent work
* Invested in supporting and building the Fellowship community
* Sensitive, supportive allies to under-represented communities
* Curious and eager to grow! * Excited to learn new technology like Salesforce and AI

Mission Statement

Matriculate’s mission is to empower high-achieving high school students from low-income backgrounds to make the leap to our nation’s top colleges. Since 2014, Matriculate has provided free, virtual college advising to more than 17,000 high school students across the country. Leveraging technology, Matriculate has trained over 4,500 mission-driven undergraduates to serve as virtual advisors. Over the course of around 18 months, Matriculate high school students work one-on-one with their highly trained, near-peer advisors through a 31-step curriculum to build a balanced list, apply for financial aid, and ultimately enroll in college.
