ORGANIZATION: Generation Two (G2)

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

The Strong National Museum of Play's Generation Two (G2) program connects community volunteers with K-2 children in Rochester-area elementary schools for weekly, child-directed play sessions. Through these relationships, we help children foster self-confidence, community, friendship, and social and emotional skills. Volunteers commit two hours per week at a designated elementary school and work with the same children from October through May. All sessions are supervised by a site coordinator, and The Strong provides all the toys, games, and craft materials for the playtime. We offer site times in the mornings and afternoons throughout the week and would be happy to match you with a time that works for your schedule.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to strengthen young children’s social and emotional development using child-directed play that empowers empathic adults to understand them.

Description

G2 is a non-profit that pairs trained volunteers with K-2 students for child-directed play sessions. Child-directed play allows the child to make the rules, change the rules and lead during a play session and aids in their social and emotional development. Volunteers are paired with up to 3 children for consecutive 30 minute, 1:1 play sessions from October to May. We currently partner with RCSD and other surrounding schools in Greece, East Irondequoit and East Rochester.
