ECO: San Diego River Community Clean-Up

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: The San Diego River Park Foundation

Each year, San Diego River Park Foundation volunteers remove more than 200,000 pounds of trash from their namesake waterway. Without our community, this trash would be left to pollute native animal habitats, parks and public spaces, leach contaminants into the water, and wash out into our ocean and beaches!

The San Diego River Park Foundation mobilizes to coordinate volunteers to remove trash throughout the Riverbed. On one Saturday every month throughout the year, volunteers gather to help create a healthier, cleaner, and safer San Diego River Park system. Not only is this a great way to give back to the community and improve the health of the River, this is a great opportunity to meet like minded people. Team captains will guide you during these 3-hour volunteer projects.

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes

Attire: Closed-toe shoes and long pants are required. The shoes must be sturdy: no Toms, sandals or flats. Please wear clothes that can get dirty. This opportunity takes place outdoors with little or no shade so volunteers should wear sun protection such as sunscreen and a hat.

Bring: Water, and snacks are recommended. Pickers, trash bags, gloves, and all supplies will be provided.

Physical Requirements: Being able to bend over, pick up trash items (either small or large depending on capability), walk long distances, and be on your feet for 3 hours. Unfortunately, due to the nature of this event, some accommodations are not able to be made. However, those that can only lift small amounts are welcome to pick up smaller pieces of trash, and if a volunteer needs to take a break, they are always welcome to do so. Unfortunately the space where this project takes place is not wheelchair accessible.

Waiver: A signed SDRPF Volunteer Waiver is required for this volunteer opportunity. Adult waivers and under 18 waivers will be provided on-site.

Weather: This event may be canceled in the event of heavy rain - if this occurs an email will be sent to all volunteers letting them know.

Note: There will not be a restroom available at this project space. If you have any questions, please email the SDRPF team at volunteer@sandiegoriver.org!
