Do you have Ikigai? Not sure? Ikigai is satisfaction and meaning in your life and if you don't already have it, let's chat about how you can get it! We are here to do more than survive, we are here to help others, be the light when all they see is darkness, ease their load when their shoulders are stooped and bring a little joy to the lonely. It is very easy to achieve and can be done in just a few hours a month by becoming a volunteer with a neighbor who is blind. It's so easy, read their mail, take them to the grocery store, go for a walk or read a magazine or book together.
Requirements to be a great volunteer include:
· desire to help others;
· pleasant demeanor;
· good reading/speaking voice;
· average reading skills;
· organizational or planning abilities;
· good driving record;
· clear criminal history;
· two references
· access to a car with proof of insurance;
· a minimum of $50/100k liability and $5,000 of property damage coverage.
· You must be in Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York or Massachusetts, there is no relocation, passport, Visa or stipend available.

Aging and Disability Services: Bureau of Education and Services for the Blind
Welcome to the Department of Aging and Disability Services. Our programs, policies and practices are designed to:
- Deliver integrated aging and disability services responsive to the needs of Connecticut citizens;
- Provide leadership on aging and disability issues statewide;
- Provide and coordinate aging and disability programs and services in the areas of employment, education, independent living, accessibility and advocacy;
- Advocate for the rights of Connecticut residents with disabilities and older adults; and
- Serve as a resource on aging and disability issues at the state level.
The Bureau of Education and Services for the Blind enables its clients to become more self-sufficient and to maximize their participation in the community, at school and in employment settings. It is important to note that most people who are legally blind retain a significant degree of practical vision.

- There is a 1.5-hour orientation session and then the schedule is made between you and your new friend. This is a flexible schedule, but you must be a person of your word with good communication skills. A monthly time sheet is required.
