ORGANIZATION: IMMIGRANT FAMILY SERVICES INSTITUTE, INC

Immigrant Family Services Institute, INC. (IFSI-USA) is a nonprofit organization that seeks to expedite immigrants’ successful integration into the social and economic fabric of the United States. One of the first steps of this mission is building a strong English foundation. To provide these services to a growing population, we are seeking volunteer teachers for our adult education program where we offer English as a Second Language (ESL) classes.

Our instructors play a crucial role in helping immigrants develop their English language skills, which are essential for their personal, professional, and social success in their new communities. Your efforts empower them to pursue education, secure better job opportunities, and build meaningful connections in their new community. With your help, we can make a profound difference in many lives.

Responsibilities:

  • Using a provided curriculum, teach different English concepts
  • Support student in setting and reaching specific goals
  • Facilitate a positive and enriching learning environment
  • Prepare, administer, and correct tests and record grades

Qualifications:

  • Passion for teaching - A genuine desire to help your students succeed and grow
  • Communication - A strong ability to explain concepts clearly and engage with students
  • Cultural Sensitivity - Respect and understanding of diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Previous Teaching / Tutoring Experience is preferred but not required
    • Training, resources, and additional support will be provided to volunteers

Commitment:

  • Classes meet for 2 hours, twice a week (4 hours per week)
  • Fall Semester is 15-weeks long with flexibility to accommodate your schedule
  • Periodical teacher meetings and trainings, to provide additional support, foster community, and cultivate a positive classroom experience

We offer a large selection of programs for immigrants including advocacy, community outreach and childrens' after-school, weekend and summer academic and music programs.

Advocacy for Immigrant Rights and help in finding alternative paths to citizenship for TPS recipients.

Education and music enrichment for children in after-school, weekend and summer programs.
