Heartland Hospice is looking for Veteran volunteers.
Veteran Volunteers serve as an additional support to veteran patients and families dealing with terminal illness and end-of-life issues. Volunteer support is provided in a variety of ways, including companionship and socialization to patients, or offering respite to stressed caregivers. As a Veteran volunteer you can educate and assist patients in receiving veteran benefits, take part in pinning ceremonies, distribute certificates for Veterans Day, assist with Veteran cafe's and other events.
Your compassion and heart to be a Veteran volunteer offers great comfort to each patient and their families.

Mission Statement
The mission of Heartland Hospice is to provide quality hospice care to patients with a limited life expectancy, as well as support to their caregivers. The quality of life for those we serve is enhanced through palliative and specialized supportive care designed to meet the physical, psychosocial, social and spiritual needs of the patients and caregivers. Hospice care is provided by an interdisciplinary team utilizing an approach to care delivered to patients either in their own home or extended care facility, working cooperatively with area health care providers and other community resources. Heartland Hospice strives to provide care to all who are eligible and need hospice care irrespective of ability to pay.
Description
Volunteers offer services in office settings, special projects, and direct patient care. Office volunteers provide filing, typing and other administrative support. They also answer phones, assist with workshops, inventory hospice supplies, assemble marketing materials and educational packets and file documentation.
Special project volunteers provide indirect support of patients with arts and crafts as well as other special activities. They make quilts, afghans, bibs, slippers and lap robes. They create cards for holidays and special occasions. They also man health fair booths and assist with memorial services.
A majority of our volunteers provide direct patient care through friendly visits to homes and facilities. These volunteers provide companionship and emotional support to patients and families through visits, reading, relief sitting, letter writing, grocery shopping, pet therapy, music and art.
