Do you have a personal relationship to Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia, and a passion for improving research, care and support for others affected by this disease? Do you live in Northern California (between the Oregon border and Bakersfield)?
If so, please consider volunteering to help us engage your elected officials in the movement to end Alzheimer’s disease!
Conquering Alzheimer’s disease is as much a matter of public policy as scientific discovery. The Alzheimer’s Association is leading the fight to end Alzheimer’s by advocating for public policies to increase the federal investment in research and improve care and support for people with the disease and their families. By educating and engaging your elected representatives on Alzheimer’s, YOU can save lives. No prior policy experience is required, and we will give you all the information, training and support you need to be a great advocate! The time commitment can be small but the rewards can be huge!
Our advocacy volunteers work with their elected officials at the local, state and federal
level to:
* Cultivate relationships
* Educate them about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias
* Engage them in supporting the Alzheimer’s Association’s public policy priorities
Advocacy volunteers work with other local volunteers and Association staff to strategize, plan, organize and participate in a wide range of virtual and in-person activities to educate and engage their elected representatives, including:
* Meeting with elected officials
* Raising awareness through local media
* Sparking social media conversations
* Coordinating events and volunteers
* Reaching out to partner organizations
This opportunity includes a mix of virtual and in-person activities, so you must live in Northern California.

Mission Statement
The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. Our mission: To eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. Our vision, A world without Alzheimer's disease.
Description
We provide programs and support services for patients, families, caregivers, and others in the San Francisco Bay Area affected by Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. Outside the federal government, the Alzheimer's Association is the largest research funder in the country and offers advocacy opportunities to make public policy change.
At the Alzheimer's Association, diversity and inclusion are vital to our mission. The Association leads strategic initiatives to support diversity and a culture of inclusivity. These strategic initiatives also strengthen outreach to all populations, providing communities with resources and support to address the Alzheimer’s crisis. By partnering with organizations locally and nationally to advance diversity and inclusion, the Association can broaden its reach in all communities.
