Invasive Plant Removal at Bow Creek Rec. Area - National Public Lands Day (NPLD)

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

Join us on September 28th to celebrate National Public Lands Day and help us remove harmful invasive plant species at Bow Creek Recreation Area!

What is National Public Lands Day ? It's the nation's largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands -- like National Parks. In 2023, over 130 national parks hosted events with 7,600 volunteers donating 41,500 hours of service! From collecting litter to maintaining trails, planting native trees to removing invasive species, volunteers this year will roll up their sleeves and join forces for a common goal--stewarding America’s natural resources for future generations to enjoy!

Managing invasive plant species is a major priority for the Missouri National Recreational River. At Bow Creek Recreation Area, several invasive species are encroaching on the space and threatening native plant species. Specifically, during this event, we will be focusing on managing thistle and Siberian Elm through hands-on removal with shears. This work will involve walking off-trail through potentially uneven terrain. By volunteering, you can gain experience identifying plants and learn how different non-native plant species can be managed.
