About Us
Breaking Silence Movement (BSM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in the United States, with registration as a nonprofit in France as well. Our mission is to make progress accessible to gender-based violence survivors, advocating for human rights, promoting international law, and addressing social issues. BSM actively collaborates with the United Nations and maintains partnerships with a range of international private and nonprofit organizations.
Who We're Looking For
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate leader to join our team as the Head of Legal Aid. This role is perfect for individuals who are deeply committed to social justice and have a strong passion for advocating on behalf of survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Whether you’re a seasoned legal professional or a law student eager to make a meaningful impact, you’ll find this position both challenging and rewarding.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership for Breaking Silence Movement's Legal Aid Program, aligning with the organization’s mission and goals, while developing innovative strategies to expand legal assistance for GBV survivors.
Team Management: Supervise and mentor a team of legal advocates and support staff, fostering a collaborative environment and ensuring professional development opportunities.
Legal Assistance Oversight: Oversee the provision of comprehensive legal services, including advice, representation, and advocacy, while coordinating with partner organizations and pro bono attorneys to ensure a continuum of support for survivors.
Advocacy and Partnerships: Advocate for policy reforms to improve access to justice for GBV survivors, while building and maintaining strategic partnerships with legal aid organizations and stakeholders.
Monitoring and Reporting: Implement monitoring and evaluation systems to assess program effectiveness, collect data, and prepare reports for internal stakeholders and funders, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.
Qualifications:
Practicing attorney, completed a JD program, or currently in law school
Relevant experience in legal practice, internships, or clinics focused on gender-based violence, human rights, or family law
Demonstrates ability to manage cases, provide representation, and advocate for survivors
Strong understanding of legal issues related to gender-based violence (GBV) and human rights
Effective leadership and team management skills
Proficiency in legal research, writing, and case management
Excellent communication and advocacy skills
Fluency in a second language is a plus, but not required
