Position Overview:

We are seeking a mature and professional Volunteer Museum Supervisor to assist in overseeing museum tasks and guiding our team of volunteers. This role is ideal for individuals with leadership experience, strong organizational skills, and a passion for maintaining a positive and productive museum environment. If you have military experience or a background in supervising and training others, we encourage you to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Volunteers: Guide and support younger volunteers and court-assigned workers in their tasks around the museum, ensuring they follow procedures and maintain a high standard of work.
  • Maintain Display Areas: Assist in managing and maintaining the display areas, ensuring exhibits are well-kept and organized.
  • Teach Work Ethic: Instill a strong work ethic in volunteers, emphasizing professionalism, responsibility, and dedication to their tasks.
  • Instruct on Safety and Tasks: Provide training on shop safety and machine shop tasks, ensuring volunteers are knowledgeable and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Manage Court-Assigned Workers: Supervise and manage court-assigned workers, who are all non-violent offenders, often serving for traffic violations, ensuring they fulfill their community service effectively and respectfully.

Qualifications:

  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of volunteers, with experience in supervising or managing groups preferred.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities to manage tasks, maintain order, and ensure a productive work environment.
  • Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with shop safety protocols and machine operation, with the ability to teach these skills to others.
  • Military Experience: Military experience is encouraged and valued for its leadership and organizational benefits.
  • Background Check: A background check is required to ensure the safety and suitability of candidates.

The American Society of Military History is the largest military museum and library on this western half of the United States. It was incorporated in Southern California in 1962 as a California Non-profit Educational Organization. We have over 170 exhibits (including tanks, trucks, jeeps, cannons, hummers, and more), a large workshop for fabrication and mechanical repairs, and a library.
