As the Head Coach for Powerlifting at Special Olympics BC - Burnaby, you will lead and inspire our powerlifting program, helping athletes with intellectual disabilities achieve their strongest selves. This role is key in providing expert training, fostering a positive environment, and supporting athletes in their powerlifting journey.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development: Create and implement engaging and effective powerlifting training programs tailored to athletes of all skill levels. Ensure training sessions are well-organized, challenging, and enjoyable.

Coaching: Lead practice sessions, offering technical instruction, motivation, and constructive feedback. Focus on building athletes' strength, technique, and confidence.

Athlete Support: Monitor athletes' progress, set personalized goals, and provide the support needed to help them reach their full potential. Address individual needs and encourage a positive attitude.

Event Management: Oversee the preparation and participation of athletes in potential local and regional powerlifting competitions. Ensure athletes are ready and confident for their events.

Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other coaches, volunteers, and staff to ensure a unified approach to training and competition. Promote teamwork and effective communication within the team.

Community Engagement: Build strong relationships with athletes, their families, and the local community. Promote the powerlifting program to recruit new participants and engage community support.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in powerlifting coaching or a related field, ideally with individuals/athletes of varying abilities.
  • A current personal training certification from a recognized organization (e.g., CSEP, NSCA, ACE, CanFitPro).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and motivational skills to inspire and guide athletes.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all participants.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse team and connect with the community.
  • Coaching certification (e.g., NCCP) is beneficial but not required before applying. Certification opportunities will be provided if selected.
