Records Management Volunteer

Volunteer will be working with Olympic National Park’s existing records in order to assist in the NPS mission to digitize existing park records as the federal government is transitioning to a fully electronic or "paperless" records management program.
Description of Duties:
Volunteers will be preparing park government records for transfer to the Federal Records Center (FRC). These records are currently located in boxes stored in the ICE building, in the Central Files room in the basement of the headquarters (HQ) building, and in the Records Storage room located on the main floor of HQ. The work being performed involves lifting and carrying boxes and repetitive motion. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as carts, nitrile gloves, and N95 masks will be provided as needed. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Accessing government records
- Organizing records according to NARA guidelines
- Inventorying records and updating the inventories in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets
- Organizing, labeling, and boxing records
- Transporting records to the FRC
Special Qualifications:
- Volunteers must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and carry potentially heavy records boxes. Volunteers should have a good self-awareness and know their physical limits. Volunteers should be able to follow directions, receive feedback, and follow all safety and standard procedures.
- Volunteers must be able to print legibly.
- Volunteer should have excellent attention to fine details, such as large numerical sequencing and alphabetical arrangement.
- Volunteers’ experience working with Microsoft Excel is highly recommended.
- A general background check will be required.
- Volunteer to be 18 years of age or older.
Season/Hours: Records management work will occur October through December 2024, with work being performed up to 16 hours per week.
