DOVE Advocates serve on-call shifts to provide crisis intervention, safety planning, emotional support, and advocacy to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in the Brooklyn Methodist Hospital Emergency room.
Interested candidates must:
- Reside within 30 min of NYP Brooklyn Methodist Hospital (506 6th St, Brooklyn NY, 11215)
- Attend the entirety of the 40h certification training
- Sat Nov 2 from 9:00-5:30 pm in person at Brooklyn Methodist Hospital
- Sun Nov 3 from 9:00-5:30 pm in person at Brooklyn Methodist Hospital
- Tues Nov 5 from 6:00-9:30 pm virtually
- Thurs Nov 7 from 6:00-9:30 pm virtually
- Sat Nov 9 from 9:00-5:30 pm in person at Brooklyn Methodist Hospital
- Sun Nov 10 from 9:00-5:30 pm in person at Brooklyn Methodist Hospital
- Commit to two shifts per month
- Attend 6 out of 12 monthly advocate meetings
- Commit to one year of service from Nov 2024-Nov 2025

Mission Statement
Through the effort of its staff and volunteers, The Domestic and Other Violence Emergencies (DOVE) Program is committed to: Provide free, compassionate and comprehensive care to victims of violent crimes for ages 12 and above including, domestic violence, physical and sexual assault and elder abuse, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Collaborate and coordinate the provision of care with other service providers in order to develop, expand and strengthen the array and delivery of comprehensive services to the adults and families affected by violent crime. Provide violence prevention education to those at risk for becoming victims and for those community and health care providers who are in a position to identify and assist individuals and families affected by violence.
Description
The DOVE staff is comprised of diverse and dedicated New York State licensed social workers and counselors who share a commitment to providing free and high quality clinical and advocacy services to survivors of all types of domestic and sexual violence. DOVE clinicians have a wide range of expertise in the treatment of trauma, from intimate partner violence to stranger rape, acquaintance and date rape, partner and marital rape and childhood sexual abuse.
In addition, DOVE recruits and trains Volunteer Advocates who are on-call 7 days a week, 365 days per year to provide support and advocacy to survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence in the Emergency Departments of New York Presbyterian Hospital.
