ORGANIZATION: ART ASSOCIATION YORK

About Us:

York Art Association is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting inclusion, diversity, and creativity in the arts within our community. We provide a platform for artists of all backgrounds and abilities to showcase their work and engage with the public. Through various events and programs, including our annual Art in the Park, we strive to make the arts accessible to everyone.

Position Summary:

As a Board Member at Large, you will play a crucial role in the governance and strategic direction of our organization. You will collaborate with fellow board members to advance our mission and ensure the sustainability of our programs. We are currently seeking individuals with expertise in community outreach, legal support, financial management, and business ownership, as well as someone to chair our annual Art in the Park event.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Governance: Participate in regular board meetings and contribute to decision-making processes that shape the future of the organization.
  • Event Planning: Take on a leadership role in planning and executing our annual Art in the Park event, working closely with volunteers and the community to ensure its success.
  • Community Outreach: Develop and implement strategies to increase community engagement and participation in our programs and events.
  • Legal Support: Provide legal guidance and oversight to ensure the organization complies with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Financial Oversight: Assist with financial planning, budgeting, and fundraising efforts to ensure the organization’s fiscal health.
  • Business Expertise: Offer insights and advice on business operations and partnerships to enhance the organization’s impact and reach.
  • Advocacy: Act as an ambassador for the organization, promoting our mission and values to the broader community.
Qualifications:
  • A passion for the arts and a commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and creativity within the community.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: event planning, community outreach, legal support, financial management, or business ownership.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Previous experience serving on a nonprofit board is an asset but not required.
  • Availability to attend monthly board meetings and participate in committee work as needed.
Commitment:

This is a volunteer position with a minimum commitment of 1-5 hours per month. Board members are expected to serve a 2-year term, with the possibility of renewal.

It's a place for the tourist to stop by and buy a souvenir from their travels, or to understand more of the local culture. Art inspires us all.
