US Based Candidates only, with a strong preference for candidates in the EST zone.
A committed coaching team is needed to support Onyx (Boys/Girls ages 12 to 21) - the fledgling Drumline of SoulPhamm. Auditions for this team will begin virtually in September and then their season will run from September 14, 2024 to June 21, 2025.
The Drumline often attracts young people who are at the very start of their musical careers - having little to no experience in drumming. Occasionally, we also attract students who have experience with other instruments who want to learn the collegiate drumline style. Coaches will have the autonomy to influence the team's style, adding Jersey and NYC flavor to their routines.
The Drumline first began with four students in 2021 while we were still in the grips of covid and facilities were still shut-down. We found that the team thrived during virtual practices in the fall and winter. By late spring, we brought the team together for their first in-person practice and it was as though they had been playing in person all season. We hope to continue to refine the virtual experience and will add the in-person experience a little later in this season. We will connect the virtual and in-person coaches so that they can align with what the team will learn.
The new coach would be asked to set a weeknight practice (45-60 minutes) on any evening (Mon-Fri) with a 6pm, 6:30pm or 7pm start. There is already one virtual coach on staff.
This season, the team is expected to include between five and ten young musicians (ages 12-19) and is expected to be fairly busy starting in the spring of 2025 - often being invited to perform in high visibility events such as NBA games and parades, so coaches should come in with the mindset of preparing the team for immediate performance. They will support our HBCU-style majorette dance team in a parade in May, 2025.
Experience in a drumline is required. Coaching experience is not required but the ability to guide a beginner or experienced musician is critical. We will support you as you grow. There are also opportunities for referral to paid opportunities after six months of service.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of young people by providing unique artistic and athletic experiences and performances, and to assist them in achieving the highest standards of professionalism through the development of discipline, skill, confidence, cooperation, leadership, responsibility and character.
Description
Our vision is to promote virtue, equity, unity, justice, faith, charity and a sense of common purpose and brotherhood among all people with an emphasis on the development and advancement of young people through education, athletics, service and the arts.
SoulPhamm was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the state of New Jersey on June 25, 2021 and is the "birth-child" of Coach Luis ("Lou") and Dr. Leisa Herrera ("Mz. Doc"). The organization exists to provide training to young people in a variety of sports and performing arts and unique opportunities to display those talents through competition and performance. By integrating mentoring, life skills, opportunities for community service and academic enrichment to the athletic/artistic program, we help make our scholar-athletes as well-rounded as possible, capable of meeting and overcoming any challenges they are faced with. Although Coach Lou passed away suddenly in January 2021, the official launch of SoulPhamm was held on June 26, 2021, which coincided with his birthday weekend. SoulPhamm will recognize its own founding, as well as the achievements of our young people every year on the fourth Saturday of June, as a tribute to the life and legacy of Coach Lou.
