Assist in the growth, progress, and independence of individuals who have Down syndrome by serving as the Volunteer Literacy Coordinator at GiGi's Playhouse San Diego.
The Volunteer Literacy Coordinator oversees the literacy program and tutors. They are responsible for collecting data/outcomes, reporting back to the Program Coordinator for feedback, future projections and progressions. They assist in matching a tutor to a participant, provide training to tutors, and effectively communicate with the Program Coordinator.
Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes
Time Commitment: Volunteers are expected to commit to this role for at least 1 year.
Onboarding Process: Application, interview with Program Coordinator, background check, and fill out onboarding documents (Confidentiality, Photo Release, Ethics, etc.). This process generally takes a week.
Required Skills/Experience: Excellent communication skills, positivity and enthusiasm for GiGi's Playhouse. Previous volunteer coordination or leadership role experience.
Desired Skills/Experience: Moderate knowledge of computers and data entry with experience using Microsoft Office suite of programs, especially Publisher, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Physical Requirements: Organizational skills and patience. This project is able to make accommodations for individuals with physical limitations depending on the individuals' needs. The space where this project takes place is wheelchair accessible.

Description
We are looking for individuals with high energy, positive, motivated, enthusiastic character to assist and encourage individuals with Down Syndrome reach their highest potential. We have opportunities in our GiGi's Kitchen program as leads (this involves following and teaching basic kitchen and cooking skills) Playhouse cleaning, Fantastic Friends (this involves assisting with social and activities), and many more opportunities.
