Help Adults in Your Community with Essential Digital Skills- Volunteer with LiteracyCNY!

We're looking for a dedicated volunteer to assist with LiteracyCNY's Digital Literacy Program at Beauchamp Library on Wednesday mornings from 10am-1pm. Currently, Digital Literacy Volunteers are available to community members for tech help at no cost on Monday and Saturday mornings, and bi-weekly on Wednedays. We need an additional volunteer to cover the alternating Wednesday mornings.

Commitment Details:

  • Time commitment: Volunteer once every other week for 3 hours
  • Duration: 6 months or more
  • Location: Beauchamp Branch Library, Onondaga County
    • This volunteer opportunity is organized through LiteracyCNY's Digital Literacy Program, though your assigned location will be the Beauchamp Branch Library.

What You'll Do:

  • Work one-on-one with individuals to learn improve their digital literacy skills such as device operation, internet navigation, and using common software like email
  • Assist community members using their own devices or a laptop provided by LiteracyCNY

Requirements:

  • Complete our Digital Literacy Volunteer Training to learn about the program's goals, the communities we serve, and how you can make an impact.
  • Commit to a recurring shift for a minimum of six months.

Our Mission is to improve the reading, English language, math and digital literacy skills of adults in Central New York. Our trained volunteers support participants in achieving their personal goals to fully participate in the community as citizens, parents, consumers and workers.

Description

Through the use of one-to-one tutoring, small group classes, conversation groups, drop-in or appointment-based computer help, and online learning tools and resources LiteracyCNY uses volunteers to help members of the community to increase their skills in reading, math, English language, and digital literacy so that they are able to fully engage in life as parents, workers, consumers, and citizens.

Please note: All volunteers must be at least 18 years old, fluent in English, and have completed high school or the equivalent. Tutoring opportunities are available in Onondaga County. Digital Literacy Volunteer opportunities are available in Onondaga, Madison, Oneida, and Herkimer Counties.
