The Social Science, Humanities and Foreign Language department houses courses in Humanities, History and Foreign Languages (French and Spanish).

Volunteer Opportunity:
Volunteers in this position provide support to the Spanish Language Classroom or serving as a tutor when needed.

Volunteer Responsibilities:
* Tutoring students enrolled in SPA-111 (Beginning Spanish 1), SPA-112 (Beginning Spanish II), SPA-211 (Intermediate Spanish 1), SPA-212 (Intermediate Spanish II) and SPA-120 (Spanish for the workplace)
* Serving as a conversational partner for anyone interested in practicing spoken Spanish

Requirements:
* An application, background check and orientation/brief training are required before starting this position.
* Must be able to commute to A-B Tech in Asheville NC. This position is in-person.
* Must have a social security number, be over the age of 18. This position is not eligible for community service.

Volunteer Responsibilities:
* Proficient in Spanish and tutoring experience preferred
* Prior experience in Spanish
* Patience and kindness
* Able to accept direction and suggestions from the classroom instructor
* Accepting each student and encouraging the best from them and comfortable working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Specific Competencies:
1- Written and spoken Spanish
2- Conversational Spanish fluency
3- Knowledge of course objectives (provided below) including grammatical structures.

Times:
To be determined by student and volunteer

Location:
Tutoring will take place via Zoom or Teams or in person on campus at A-B Tech Community College. Specific location chosen by volunteer. Spanish language faculty may offer suggestions.
