ORGANIZATION: GATHER AND GROW

Intern duties:

Research and connect with Sustainable Partners and neighborhood businesses in the South Mountain area, the Valley, and other places that may help us to develop the South Mountain area as a learning center.

Research possible connections with educational institutions that may be able to use gardening to provide kinesthetic and tactile therapy to students as a conduit for social emotional skill development to combat trauma - with science learning and civic engagement as added benefits, and to create opportunities for their students and faculty to enhance their understanding of sustainability and food production.

Help develop a curriculum for targeted educational institutions and organizations that visit and participate in our community outreach.

Maintenance of School Garden plots, plants and composting areas including input on design and structure.

Integrate and help in developing a gardening curriculum for participating organizations and local schools.

Pay: $15/hour

Description

After a Gather & Grow experience, children will be in touch with South Phoenix ancestral legacy of gardening. They will possess skills that they can choose to take into the job market, and they will have developed safe and healthy coping mechanisms that will help them when encountering life's adversities.
