Show Salmon How 'Mulch' You Love Them @ South Prairie Creek Preserve- Join PCD's Sep. 21 Work Party!
ORGANIZATION: Pierce Conservation District
Please visit the new page to apply.
Volunteer with Pierce Conservation District at South Prairie Creek Preserve from 9 AM - 12 PM on Saturday, September 21st. After a successful planting season at the Preserve, there are thousands of baby shrubs and trees needing fresh rings of mulch around their base to improve their chances of survival. Mulch rings help plants retain water, keep soil cool on hot days, suppress potential invasive competition, and provide organic material to support healthy soil. Spreading mulch is a fun and easy way to contribute to the restoration of this critical salmon (and other wildlife!) habitat.
What to Expect:
- Uneven and sometimes wet or muddy terrain.
- A port-a-potty will be available on-site.
- Limited Parking. Please carpool with members of your party, if possible.
What to Bring:
- Dress for the weather - layers are recommended. (Check the weather forecast prior to the event for guidance)
- Sturdy, closed-toe, water-resistant shoes
- Gardening/work gloves (optional; PCD will have gloves available for use)
- Full water bottle!

Description
The Pierce Conservation District works with the community to improve water quality, promote sustainable agriculture, create thriving habitat, and build a just and healthy food system for all, through education, community engagement, and financial and technical assistance. Our district’s roots run deep in our community. Created in 1949 as part of a national response to the ecological disaster of the 1930s known as the Dust Bowl, we have worked for over 65-years to help local farmers, cities, and citizens address numerous sustainability challenges. Conserving our natural resources for future generations gets more difficult with each year, making the work of Pierce Conservation District more important than ever.
