Recruiting Organization: Rock Recovery
Rock Recovery (Rock) is a nonprofit in the Washington, DC area that uniquely offers both clinical and spiritual care to help people find healing from eating disorders and body image issues. Rock’s programs have helped more than 500 clients and support group members find freedom, and the organization’s community programs have educated more than 19,000 community members.
A major part of the Rock volunteer team are our clinical practicum and internship students. Clinical volunteer are graduate-level counseling students who are seeking to provide supervised clinical services to clients. Clinical student volunteers work closely with the Clinical Director to help us reach more people in need of affordable, specialized eating disorder care.
Clinical Services (75%)
Direct:
- Provide individual therapy services, once it is determined by the student and the Clinical Director that the student is prepared and ready to do so. Number of individual clients will vary on a case-by-case basis.
- Shadow, co-lead, and lead at least 1-2 therapy groups per week alongside a licensed therapist or resident in counseling.
- Support the group lead therapist with completing intake assessment and eight-week check-in sessions with clients
- Learn and perform the screening process for therapy services
Indirect:
- Complete progress notes and invoices for services provided
- Respond to client email inquiries in a professional and timely manner
Program and community support (15%):
- Shadow or co-lead nationwide, virtual faith support groups (weekly devo group + one six-week recovery course), if this is an area of interest for the intern. This service should count towards group hours.
- Provide on-site or online support at Rock Community events (trainings, workshops, fairs, etc.)
- Conduct research and tracking on treatment programs techniques, ED statistics, etc. to assist in developing new programs and improving current programs
Organization/Administrative work (10%):
- Complete occasional administrative projects as assigned by the Clinical Director
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of Excel by creating and maintaining tracking spreadsheets
Qualifications:
- In a relevant masters or doctoral degree program (counseling, psychology, social work)
- Desire to gain experience working with disordered eating populations
- Ability to support Rock Recovery’s faith-based roots and initiatives
- Support of an all-foods-fit nutritional philosophy as well as Health at Every Size (HAES)
- Ability to work as part of a motivated team
- Must be willing to be available 2 evenings per week
- Ability to commit to the position for at least one semester with the potential to continue for additional semesters
- Commitment to organization, attention to detail, efficient, and conscientious about thorough follow-up
- Qualified candidates must successfully pass a background check
