Makerspace YK’s volunteer Board of Directors is actively recruiting a new member to serve as Treasurer. We are seeking someone with financial, accounting, or business experience who is passionate about supporting others and making a meaningful impact.
As Board Treasurer, you will join the Board of Directors and work with the Executive Director to lead the financial strategy, management and accountability of the organization. We are seeking people who have a strong sense of volunteerism, are looking to play a leadership role in the Yellowknife community, and who have an active interest in community economic development as well as the arts and culture sector.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Attend quarterly board meetings in-person or remotely.
- Attend and chair finance committee meetings
- Work with the Executive Director and finance committee to develop the annual Operating budget
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and tax filing in collaboration with the bookkeeper and the Executive Director
- Manage the budget and monitor financial performance. Work with the Executive Director to prepare and review the quarterly financial statements (Income Statement and Cash Flow).
- Help coordinate the annual audit review.
- Provide strategic financial guidance to the Board
The Ideal Candidate will have:
- Financial and business/non-profit experience
- An understanding of financial management and accounting principles
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Commitment to our mission and values
- Experience working or living in Northern or remote communities.

We deliver our mandate through programming and access to our facility which houses a fully-outfitted wood workshop (Shopspace), digital fabrication space (Hackspace), and multimedia art and event space (Artspace).
