They will be offering their 104th volunteer crisis counselor training in September 2024. The training will take place one evening a week for 10 weeks plus one full weekend. All classes are required. Please see website for exact dates. Classes will follow a hybrid schedule.
Participants receive 46 hours of comprehensive training by nationally certified instructors in active listening and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training. Volunteers develop the ability to listen actively, assess the needs of someone in crisis and provide empathy and support. There is a fee for class materials.
Following the training, new volunteer crisis counselors will be supported by seasoned Listeners during and internship before they take calls on their own.
