Description
The suburban Hennepin County Library system provides services through 26 libraries, Hennepin eLibrary, the Children's Readmobile, deposit collections at nursing homes and correctional facilities, mail service to the homebound and extensive outreach services. The Library consistently ranks among the top ten libraries (among those serving populations of over 500,000) in the country.
The Library is committed to serving as Hennepin County's partner in lifelong learning. From Baby Storytime to classes in Web Basics for Seniors, from author talks to multicultural arts and science programs, the library offers a wide range of free programming to meet the interest of Hennepin County children and adults.
Hennepin County Library is a recognized leader in providing electronic as well as traditional library resources. All 26 libraries in the library system provide on-site access to Hennepin eLibrary and other Internet-accessible information resources. Hennepin eLibrary offers interactive live Web reference services and a growing collection of electronic resources, such as subscription databases and website links, selected and organized to meet the diverse information needs of Hennepin County residents. Although there are some licensing restrictions, most electronic resources are accessible to anyone, through the Internet, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
At the same time, the Library has sustained its commitment to excellence in providing more traditional library resources and services. People may borrow books, compact discs, magazines, newspapers, audio tapes, videos, slides, DVDS, and pamphlets from suburban Hennepin County libraries. Hennepin County citizens have access to information services in person at the libraries, by telephone, and via the website. The Library's use rate is nearly double the national average - equivalent to every suburban resident borrowing more than 15 items annually.
The Library is a department of Hennepin County Government.
