About This Position:
Awaken Pittsburgh is seeking a passionate and experienced individual to join its Board of Directors and serve on the Governance Committee. The Governance Committee plays a crucial role in ensuring the organization operates with transparency, accountability, and in alignment with its mission and values. The ideal candidate will have deep connections in the Pittsburgh region, a strong background in governance, nonprofit management, and a commitment to mindfulness and holistic well-being practices.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with fellow board members and executive leadership to set strategic goals and policies for the organization.
2. Review and update organizational bylaws, policies, and procedures as needed to ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.
3. Provide oversight and guidance on matters related to board structure, composition, and effectiveness.
4. Conduct regular assessments of board performance, including individual member contributions and collective efficacy.
5. Assist in the recruitment, orientation, and development of new board members.
6. Serve as a liaison between the Board of Directors and other committees within the organization.
7. Work to recruit new members and build a pipeline for leadership for the Board.
8. Uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct in all governance-related activities.
About You:
- Proven experience serving on a nonprofit board and/or governance committee, preferably in the mindfulness, wellness, or related fields.
- Deep understanding of nonprofit governance principles, including fiduciary responsibilities, board governance models, and best practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze complex issues and make informed decisions.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Awaken Pittsburgh, including a dedication to promoting mindfulness and holistic well-being in the community.
- Connections in the Pittsburgh community.
- Legal, risk management, financial, or human resources expertise is a plus.
