Recruiting Organization: Treasured Pets Foundation Inc

Treasured Pets Foundation (TPF) is a registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization incorporated in Florida. We are located in the St. Petersburg - Clearwater, FL area. The organization was formed in 2021 for the sole purpose of disrupting, combating, and alleviating Economic Euthanasia. We are dedicated to empowering pet and companion animal parents with the knowledge and resources needed to enhance and extend the lives of their beloved canine and feline companions. While we’ve made outstanding progress since 2021, Treasured Pets still has scores of work to do. The problem of Economic Euthanasia is enormous, and the solution complex -- requiring considerable funds and abundant human resources. We need your support to expedite the release of our innovative programs that support our mission. Please help us fulfill our mission and realize our vision by donating the time you feel comfortable contributing.

Title: Board of Directors Member

Pay: Unpaid position (Board member insurance will be added asap)

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per month with a min. commitment of one year

Location: Virtual/Remote/Work-from-Home

Collaborates with: Executive Director, Board Members, Coordinators, Department Managers, Internal Stakeholders & External Stakeholders (as required)

Responsibilities of the Board

As the highest leadership body of the organization and to satisfy its fiduciary duties, the board is responsible for:

  • Determining the mission of the organization and understanding its collective purpose
  • Selecting, supporting, and evaluating the performance of the C-suite executives
  • Strategic and organizational planning
  • Ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
  • Fundraising and resource development
  • Approving and monitoring the organization’s programs and services
  • Enhancing the organization’s public image
  • Assessing the Board's performance as the governing body of the organization
  • Ensuring legal and ethical integrity, and maintaining compliance with all required areas

Responsibilities of Board Members

Each board member is expected to:

  • Know the organization’s mission, vision, values, policies, programs, and needs as well as understand its collective purpose
  • Faithfully read and understand the organization’s financial statements and board materials in advance of meetings
  • Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization
  • Fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission
  • Leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to achieve the organization’s mission
  • Give a meaningful personal financial donation
  • Help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization’s fundraising and reputational standing, and influence public policy
  • Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings
  • Participate fully in one or more committees
  • Engage in learning opportunities to better understand the community we serve
  • Respect the experiences of all who bring their voices and lived experiences into the boardroom and the organization

Other Responsibilities of Nonprofit Board Members

  • Uphold the legal duties and laws regarding nonprofit governance
  • Follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions
  • Sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and conflicts during meetings
  • Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of the organization

Ideal Composition for Treasured Pets' Board of Directors

The ideal board of directors for Treasured Pets would be a fusion of the following:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
  • Veterinary Medical Director
  • Veterinary Hospital or Veterinary Clinic Owner
  • Animal-Loving Philanthropist or Animal Advocate Philanthropist
  • Wealth Advisor or Wealth Manager
  • Executive of the American Pet Products Association (APPA) or similar
  • Executive of the Pet Advocacy Network or similar
  • Executive of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) or similar
  • Executive of PetSmart, Petco, Chewy, or similar
  • Marketing and Fundraising Professional
  • Executive of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) or similar
  • Individuals with a Doctor of Education (EdD) degree
  • Animal and Food Sciences PhD or Animal Behavior PhD degree
