About Us: The Adler Planetarium is home to Zooniverse, the world’s largest platform for people-powered research. With 2.7 million registered participants and over 80 active projects spanning various disciplines (see zooniverse.org/projects), Zooniverse enables the public to engage in meaningful research-from classifying galaxies to transcribing historical documents and marking cell structures for cancer research. Each project is led by a dedicated research team.
Adler Zooniverse Corporate Volunteering Program: In recent years, Adler has developed a Zooniverse Corporate Volunteering program, partnering with a dozen companies including Microsoft, Verizon, and Bloomberg. Through this program, employees from these companies volunteer via Zooniverse, contributing over a million classifications each year. This initiative has become a vital source of philanthropic support for the sustainability of Adler’s Zooniverse.
In addition to employees’ individual participation in Zooniverse classifications at times of their choosing, many Adler Zooniverse Corporate Partners participate in quarterly virtual volunteer events for their employees led by an Adler staff member.
Virtual Events are typically 1-hour sessions held via Zoom or Microsoft Teams, attended by 20 to 150 participants. These events are scheduled by our corporate partners during work hours, Monday to Friday. Volunteers will lead these sessions using a standard facilitation template and slide deck that can be adapted to their style. (The template includes instructions, Zooniverse stories, reflection questions, etc.).
