Launching a RULMD Door Dash program that addresses hunger and food insecurity in Marquette, Gwinn and Ishpeming. The Door Dash/RULMD Marquette-Ishpeming, Mobile Food Pantry Initiative is designed to address food insecurity by directly delivering essential food items-such as fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and baked goods-to individuals and families in need across Marquette County. Through the Ride United Last-Mile Delivery program, this initiative operates mobile food pantries at strategically selected locations to maximize reach and impact. By providing food directly to the communities in need, the initiative will reduce food access barriers and alleviate food insecurity stress. Volunteers will play a critical role in the success of the Mobile Food Pantry Initiative. Their activities will include: * Setting Up and Operating Mobile Pantries * Food Distribution: Volunteers will help distribute food to individuals and families, including managing lines, verifying identities, and ensuring each household receives the appropriate amount of food. * Stocking and Inventory Management: Volunteers will assist in stocking the mobile pantry with food items, maintaining inventory records, and managing food supplies to ensure that the pantry is adequately stocked for each distribution event. * Community Engagement: Volunteers will engage with community members to provide information about available resources, answer questions, and offer support to those in need. * Clean-up and Organization: After each distribution, volunteers will help with the clean-up process, including packing up remaining food, managing waste, and organizing the space for future events. Mission Statement
The Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC) utilizes service as a strategy to address the state’s most pressing issues and empowers volunteers to strengthen communities.
Description
Since its founding in 1991, the MCSC has granted more than $100 million in public and private funds to community organizations enabling them to engage millions of Michigan citizens in volunteer service. This support has leveraged more than $85 million in local resources to further support these community volunteer initiatives.
Volunteerism doesn't just happen. Most social service and nonprofit organizations rely heavily on volunteers as a valuable human resource; that resource must be stewarded carefully and supported continuously. Volunteer recruitment, management, training, placement, and recognition require resources and attention. With continued public and private support, along with the necessary training, resources, and coordination needed to help people serve, volunteerism can become a way of life for all Michigan citizens.
It is our vision that all Michigan residents, beginning at an early age and continuing for a lifetime, meet community needs and find personal fulfillment through service-learning and volunteering. Michigan is an ideal place to live and is recognized nationally because its citizens believe so strongly in the value of service as a way of life.
