Are you interested in horticultural education, growing fruit, and increasing access to stronger, healthier, more independent food systems? If so, we need you!

HOEC offers hands-on opportunities for horticultural education, volunteerism, and intergenerational community connection. We believe that all people, regardless of financial barriers, should have the power to build stronger, healthier, more independent food systems.

HOEC seeks positive, enthusiastic, fruit-loving individuals interested in joining our Board of Directors.

Experience working on a nonprofit board is very rewarding. It offers valuable learning opportunities involving stimulating and knowledgeable staff and volunteers. It broadens your knowledge of community and what it means to have sustainable food resources.

It is important to know that the HOEC board is a working and fundraising board. Being part of a working board means that board members have some additional responsibilities related to the essential functioning of the organization, such as helping to create new policies, fundraising, and serving on committees (typically 3-5 per year)

Being part of the HOEC Board of Directors is voluntary. No payment or other type of compensation is offered.

The role of the HOEC Board is to ensure the organization works towards and adheres to its stated purpose and mission, to make decisions in the best interest of HOEC, and to ensure that applicable laws and regulations are being followed. This means that board members attend board meetings, brainstorm and share ideas with each other, support and work with the Executive Director, and vote on important issues. Titled board members also perform tasks related to their specific office.

Description

The HOEC Community Orchard, located on the Clackamas Community College Campus is the base for all of our workshops, volunteer programming, and CSA operations. This 1.6 acre educational orchard serves as an important community space dedicated to the preservation of heirloom fruit varieties, hands-on opportunities for learning, and demonstration of home orcharding practices.

The Home Orchard Education Center (HOEC) is focused on horticultural education, community building through volunteerism, and providing hands-on opportunities for food growing enthusiasts. We believe that everyone should have the knowledge and power to build stronger, healthier, more independent food systems. We have come very far in our 4 years in operation- however, we want to do more! Our hope is to provide low to no-cost access to our programming and services to even more of our community.
