Recruiting Organization: Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation
Do you love dogs, cats, and critters? Do you also have events and leadership expertise? If so, we have a position for you!
The Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) is seeking a Community Events Chair to plan and execute events for the Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation and the animals we are supporting. This role has the unique opportunity to plan and coordinate events on behalf of this 501(c)3 organization. The Community Events Co-Chair will collaborate with the Furry 5K and Community Events committee members and will be a member of our 15-person board. This is an unpaid position with a 3-year term. This position will require an average of 3-5 hours of work weekly throughout the year, as we host our own and participate in a variety of community-focused fundraising and awareness events.
The ideal candidate has previous event and volunteer management experience, is willing to roll up their sleeves to plan and execute tasks and is passionate about helping Seattle’s animals and engaging with the community. This animal lover will be well-versed in planning and executing a variety of events, ranging from small tabling events to large-scale extravaganzas. In particular, this individual will also be well versed in and will take the lead on event volunteer recruitment, training, and management and should be comfortable with delegating tasks and leading a team of passionate volunteers. Attention to detail, a can-do attitude, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment are essential elements to this role. The candidate will also work with our fundraising and marketing teams to ensure our donors are well-informed about upcoming events.
Here are some of the projects you will be co-leading:
- Furry 5K: Each June, the Furry 5K fun run/walk fundraiser attracts thousands of two-legged runners accompanied by their four-legged companions. The race is followed by pet fair, with entertainment, festive music, awards, and an interactive vendor area. A popular event in Seattle that is celebrating its 25th year! The Furry 5K is one of the few races in the Puget Sound area that encourages participants to run or walk with their dogs.
- Several smaller fundraising and awareness events throughout the year: From small beer and wine events to neighborhood festivals to annual holiday photo sessions, SASF works to raise awareness about the Seattle Animal Shelter through various events.
Board Member Requirements:
- Ability to commit to a 3-year term
- Ability to contribute $1000 annually to SASF through funds or in-kind donations (any solicited/procured items and event ticket sales from one's network counts toward this commitment)
- Ability to attend monthly Board meetings held on Wednesdays 5:30-7pm (currently virtual)
About the Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation:
In 2010, the Seattle Animal Shelter and a committed group of volunteers recognized that there were certain needs beyond the scope of what the City could fund. To better address these needs, SASF was formed. SASF raises critical funds to help enrich the lives of Seattle’s animals and empowers volunteers and the local community to become part of the effort. SASF is comprised of an all-volunteer Board of Directors who serve three-year consecutive terms.
Recent SASF projects include:
- • Veterinary Clinic Revamp
- • Animal Behavorial Program
How to apply: Please email your resume to SASF’s Governance Committee at governance@seattleanimalshelterfoundation.org.
