Are You a Professional Social Worker Looking to Make a Lasting Impact?
Cross Over Community Development (COCD), an organization dedicated to facilitating the integration of immigrants and refugees, is seeking experienced social workers to supervise our dedicated interns. If you're passionate about mentoring the next generation of social workers and have a heart for supporting immigrant and refugee communities, we would love to hear from you.
About Us: COCD is a non-profit organization based in Dayton, Ohio, with a mission to empower immigrants and refugees through services such as English training, job placement, healthcare, education, and housing assistance. We provide a welcoming environment where families can find the support they need to thrive in their new communities.
The Role: As a Supervising Social Worker, you will play a crucial role in guiding our interns as they navigate their first field placements. You will be responsible for:
- Providing weekly supervision meetings to help interns debrief, discuss their experiences, and develop their professional skills.
- Assisting interns in understanding agency policies, client interaction, and documentation practices.
- Encouraging interns to gain hands-on experience working with clients, moving from observation to active participation.
- Supporting the interns as they complete a minimum of 75 hours each semester, with 8 hours per week dedicated to their internship.
Time Commitment: We ask that the Supervising Social Worker commit to approximately 2-3 hours per week for supervision, guidance, and support. This time commitment ensures that our interns receive the mentorship they need while allowing for flexibility in your schedule.
Ideal Candidate: We are looking for a professional social worker who:
- Has extensive experience in social work, particularly in roles that involved supervision and mentorship.
- Is passionate about working with diverse populations, especially immigrants and refugees.
- Can commit to providing consistent supervision from early October through mid-March.
- Is excited to be part of a community-focused organization and contribute to the professional growth of emerging social workers.
- This position could be ideal for a recently retired social worker.
Why Volunteer with Us?
- Make a meaningful impact on the lives of immigrants and refugees.
- Share your wealth of experience with eager, aspiring social workers.
- Stay engaged in the social work field while contributing to a cause you care about.
If you're interested in this opportunity to shape the future of social work and support our mission, please reach out to us. We would love to discuss how you can be a part of our team.

Description
Cross Over Community Development is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting immigrants and refugees in re-establishing high-quality lives for themselves and fully participating in the life of their new community.
Background
Cross Over was named after the idea that African immigrants and refugees cross from areas of absolute poverty and come to the US with the hope of accessing opportunities, create wealth and escape poverty. Unfortunately, they find upon arrival here barriers after barriers mostly linked to their lack of functional skills, cultural awareness, appropriate education, transferable job skills as well as social connections and they get stuck with the first survival job they get upon arrival here, unable to move to the next level, many become underemployed and end up assimilating in the underclass which prevents them from realizing their dream of creating money, prosperity, and success.
It is against this backdrop that volunteers who have been involved with new immigrants’ issues formed a nonprofit called "Cross Over Community Development" intended to empower them with employment skills and job creations so that they can improve their quality of life and self-sufficiency. Our outreach programs to break the generational poverty will target both immigrants and underserved communities.
