ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org

Recruiting Organization: Grandmother's Village Project

Do you have expertise in finance, legal, digital & social media marketing, fundraising, leadership, organizational development, or business? Leverage your skills to support Grandmothers’ Village Project (GVP) in delivering excellence in affordable, net-zero elder housing, complete with a regenerative organic farm and a eco-education-retreat center.

Our Mission:

The Grandmothers Village Project is a not-for-profit organization founded to uphold and provide respect, honor, and care for our Elders, centering on our Grandmothers. Our mission is to foster a healthy and sustainable environment; promote social, economic, environmental, housing, food, and spiritual justice, and strengthen democracy for our BIPOC Elder Women/Grandmothers, and Grandfathers.

Board of Directors Statement of Purpose:

Our board members are pivotal in supporting GVP through mission-based leadership, financial oversight, enhancing public standing, and ensuring legal integrity.

Individual Board Member Responsibilities:

  • Increase awareness of and attendance at GVP events.
  • Review and guide the organization’s financial decisions. Assist in identifying and recruiting board members, supporters, and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with the Ad Hoc Advisory Council to ensure board initiatives are community-informed.
  • Undertake special assignments and initiatives aligned with your expertise.
  • Serve as an ambassador for GVP.
  • Make a financial contribution you can afford and include GVP in at least one of your three charitable contributions at least annually.

Length of Terms: Board Members will serve a three-year term, with a review after the first year, and eligibility to renew at the end of each term.

Frequency of Board Meetings:

Monthly board meetings and quarterly review meetings, unless otherwise indicated (virtual). There may be other considerations (events, special projects, etc.) that require meetings.

Remuneration:

Service on GVP’s Board of Directors is voluntary and unpaid, with reimbursement for costs incurred during board activities.

Fundraising:

Board Members should prioritize GVP in their philanthropic efforts and help solicit contributions from foundations, individuals, and organizations. While financial contributions are not mandatory, annual donations commensurate with one’s capacity are encouraged.

Benefits of Serving on GVP’s Board:

  • Utilize your expertise to support our diverse elder community in the Greater Boston, and South Shore areas.
  • Access to private, and public events with GVP.
  • Special training on nonprofit governance, JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion), and other relevant topics.
  • Social connection and community with fellow board members.
  • Recognition on our website and in all our newsletters and mailings.

Qualifications:

This is an extraordinary opportunity for individuals passionate about GVP’s mission, with a track record of leadership or professional accomplishment. Selected Board Members will have demonstrated leadership in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector.
