This Fall, from October 1st -13 th, Hands on Housing has a large volunteer painting event called Raise the Roof. For this event, we connect volunteer teams to our clients to paint and do minor carpentry repairs. During the span of the event, volunteers will paint and repair homes for 10 low-income homeowners - typically senior citizens and disabled individuals living in deep poverty. Our goal is to keep our homeowners safe, give them a sense of dignity and pride for their home, and help them remain in the neighborhoods they love. We accomplish this impactful work only with the generous help of teams of volunteers formed by congregations, businesses, social organizations, colleges/universities, and other nonprofit organizations.

We would love to have you join us as a team leader for Raise the Roof this October. Teams consist of 5-30 individuals (or more if you'd like to split your team into morning and afternoon shifts). We recommend that each team have two team leaders - one to coordinate your volunteers and one to work with the homeowner(s) and supplies. Team leaders must attend orientation training on August 22 nd from 6-7:00pm at the iACT office (see address below). During orientation, team leaders will be given pertinent information and details on their assigned home and the homeowner. Also, team leaders will be informed on all aspects of the event to ensure that Raise the Roof is successful experience for both clients and volunteers .

iACT provides all supplies needed, but organizations that have funds to contribute to buying paint, carpentry materials, etc. are greatly appreciated. Please note that although carpentry work, meet and greets with the homeowner, power washing, etc. usually happens during weekdays, paint days will only be on the first two weekends of October. If bad weather does not permit painting on your team’s scheduled dates, the following two weeks, known as "rain dates" or "make-up" days, will be provided October 14 th - 31 st. Each team is allowed to pick any rain day(s) to complete their assigned project. Also, as a way to show our appreciation, pizza will be provided for all teams for one of the work days.

If you would like to register for the event, please fill out our Registration Form. If you think you might not be able to get a team together, we happily accept individual volunteers as well. Individual volunteers are not required to attend orientation (as the team leader assigned to the home you will be paired with will attend); however, individuals are more than welcome to attend!

Hands on Housing’s traditional painting events occurs bi-annually. So, we look forward to seeing you again in the Spring for Spring Blitz (April)! Raise the Roof and Spring Blitz is truly the heart of iACT’s Hands on Housing Department; therefore, we do greatly appreciate you as we have a keen awareness that these painting events would not be possible without you! On behalf of the Hands on Housing team, thank you so much for your compassion, commitment, and service! Blessings!
