Engagement Volunteer
Engagement Volunteers facilitate engaging experiences with our guests, ensure adherence to Zoo safety procedures, assist in maintaining a clean and pleasant park, and provide accurate directions and event information. You’ll have the opportunity to walk the trails of the entire Zoo engaging and directing guests, positioning yourself in high traffic areas to offer assistance.
Candidates for this position are comfortable and confident with approaching and engaging with zoo guests. They are knowledgeable of the trail inventory, event locations, general zoo knowledge and wayfinding.
Wild Side Gallery Volunteer
Wild Side Gallery Volunteers welcome our guests in to enjoy seasonal art installations, provide information and answer questions about the exhibitions, and ensure the safety of the artwork and visitors. You’ll have the opportunity to share your passion for art in a fun and engaging environment.
Candidates for this position are excited and comfortable with engaging zoo guests. They are happy in a slower paced indoor environment.
While we would love nothing more than to accept every individual that applies to our program, we are limited on the number of new volunteers we can accept each intake cycle. Acceptance into the program is competitive, and we encourage all prospective volunteers to thoroughly answer each question in the application to be considered for admission. Ready to get started? - Step 1: Application - Our volunteer program onboards new volunteers twice per year in winter and summer sessions. The application for current volunteer opportunities will be available from August 1 st, 2024 - August 31, 2024. - Volunteer Application Form - Phoenix Zoo (volgistics.com)
- Step 2: Interview - Once we review your application, we will reach out to schedule a 15 minute interview via phone call. If selected as a volunteer, we will send over onboarding materials including your background check.
- Step 3: Orientation -If selected to continue based upon your interview responses and clearance of your background check, you will receive an invitation to Phoenix Zoo Volunteer Orientation. During orientation, you will learn more about the Zoo, confirm your chosen volunteer position and training schedule, and receive training on our customer service, safety, and general policies. To be considered for admission into the program, you must attend orientation.
- Step 4: Training - Following orientation, all volunteers are required to complete five training sessions in their selected volunteer position. Some positions may also include an associated knowledge assessment that must be passed. During this phase, volunteers are considered 'probationary’ and do not yet receive full volunteer benefits.
- Step 5: You're Official - Upon completion of all training requirements, volunteers are considered 'active’ and are officially welcomed into the Phoenix Zoo Volunteer Program. Active volunteers receive all volunteer benefits, are provided with their official volunteer nametag, and are allowed to self-schedule for shifts.
