Mindspring currently offers five different support groups in the Des Moines metro and is looking to grow this program. To run support groups, we need dedicated facilitators who can make a monthly commitment. Facilitators must have lived experience (either self or family member) or be a student or professional in the mental health field AND attend the Mindspring Mental Health Alliance Support Group Facilitator Training.

Primary Responsibilities: Lead discussions, utilize active listening skills, and provide
resources for support group participants.

Secondary Responsibilities: Take attendance, collect data as needed, keep up to date on
Mindspring events, webinars and opportunities, and attend ongoing support group facilitator
training.

Skills/Qualifications Needed:
● Over the age of 18
● GED or High School Diploma
● Passed cursory background check
● Lived experienced (personal or family member)
● Living well in recovery

Time Commitment: 2-4 hours once a month. This time commitment is dependent on when and
how often the support group is held. Volunteers in this role will also attend a 5-6 hour
Mindspring Support Group Facilitator training before facilitating group(s).

Description

Mindspring offers no-cost mental health webinars on a wide variety of topics that are open to the public. Mindspring provides individuals with guidance through our no-cost resource and referral line and distribute resources, news, and other relevant mental health information. We provide both peer and family led support groups within the community and facilitate crisis intervention training(s) to first responders. Mindspring has built relationships within the communities we serve by providing additional training, simulations, and unique resources to further educate community members and amplify mental health support.
