Education Volunteers will work with local elementary, Middle and High Schools in the greater Albuquerque/Rio Rancho area. Work includes assisting Rangers on fieldtrips and classroom visits. Duties include leading interpretive table talks and developing/delivering children’s activities.
Requirements:
- Working at least one (1) program or outreach event per month. This can include assisting on a field trip, classroom visit, Reading Ranger program, or tabling at an off-site location to represent the National Park Service (NPS).
- Contribute to all aspects of the operation of the Education District through other duties as assigned.
- Positively represent the National Park Service as a member of the education staff.
- MUST live in Albuquerque, NM, USA to be considered for this application. The park does NOT provide housing to staff or volunteers.
Knowledge and Skills Required
•Experience leading or teaching youth.
•Basic knowledge of park resources and services.
•Capable of dealing with stressful situations in a professional manner.
Physical Demands
Moderate physical effort is required for this position. There will be some lifting and moving of programming supplies on a regular basis and frequent walking on uneven trails. In addition, the energy needed to present regular programming to youth.
Work Environment
Much of the programming presented to youth is done outdoors within the park. There will be some time indoors planning and presenting during inclement weather or at a teacher's request.
